CANstruction is...

Canstruction is a design/build event which benefits the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Canstruction is an international competition involving the entire design and construction industry in over 150 cities around the world. Canstruction’s mission: To feed and inspire the world one can at a time.

Teams comprised of professionals from the AEC industry fundraise for, design, and build structures composed of non-perishable food items. The results are stunning sculpture exhibits with a strong message to aid in the fight against Hunger. Open to the public, who are invited to view the exhibit, the story of the structures unfold, educating visitors about those less fortunate and how we can make a difference in their lives. All the canned food from the exhibit is donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

In 2015, Canstruction Chicago collected over 113,000 lbs of non-perishable items for the Food Depository’s network of 650 soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and programs throughout Cook County. Canstruction Chicago is the Food Depository’s largest one-day food drive that helps to put food on the table for the one in six men, women and children who turn to the Food Depository annually.

This year’s “Cansculptures” will be exhibited on the first floor of the iconic Merchandise between August 10 and September 6, 2016.  They will be judged in various categories by a celebrity chef and prominent members of the AEC industry. Canstruction Chicago culminates in an awards presentation and cocktail party at the Merchandise Mart.

We have assembled a highly committed team to design and build an incredible structure for the event. On behalf of the Pepper Construction/Stantec team, I’m requesting your support in contributing to the purchase of cans and materials for our structure. Your involvement will help the Greater Chicago Food Depository to feed hungry families in Chicagoland and to raise awareness on the Fight to End Hunger.
